| After the first big embezzlement of nearly $50,000 by one of their own back in 2001, the
volunteers who run the Burnsville Athletic Club began safeguards to stop that from ever
happening again.
Now, a trusted commissioner is charged with diverting more than $43,000 in money paid
by parents to his own bank account.
The alleged embezzlement is one of a half-dozen in Dakota County alone that have
ripped off private, nonprofit youth associations in as many years, County Attorney Jim
Backstrom said this week
